A message of welcome from our Worshipful Master
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the website of the Lodge of Industry No.48 in the Province of Durham. It is hoped that this website will be both informative and of interest not only to Freemasons but also to those curious to find out more about Freemasonry in general and our Lodge in particular.
Our ancient Lodge is reputed to be one of the oldest Lodges in the English Constitution. It was certainly known about in 1717 when the Grand Lodge of England was formed, although it did not join Grand Lodge until 1735. The Lodge was founded by Operative Masons and the membership remained purely operative for many years afterwards. This is a distinction that no other Lodge in the English Constitution can now claim, thus giving the Lodge a uniqueness of which we are extremely proud.
As Master of the Lodge I can assure you that a very warm welcome awaits you.
Thank you for visiting our website and please visit again soon. It is constantly under development and additional pages will be published when appropriate.
Yours sincerely & fraternally,
Bro John M Gordon PPJGD.
