Brother Fred Hopper 1929 – 2024
Our Masonic Brethren were saddened to learn of the passing of Fred Hopper, who was one of our eldest members and a well-loved brother, to the Grand Lodge above. He was born on 26th February, 1929. He was Initiated into Newcastle upon Tyne Lodge No. 24 in February 1974 and joined the Lodge of Industry No. 48 on 26th November, 1984 and became an honorary member on 24th October, 2016. He died at the age of 95 years and had recently received his fifty continuous years certificate in Masonry. His passion was for the making of banners for various organisations for which he was well respected.
Fred was a very interesting character that stemmed from his various lifetime activities. His military career saw him travel the world disposing of unexploded ordnance which had been left over from WW2. He could readily convey many humorous ancedotes of his experiences which entertained the brethren for many an hour. He loved his masonry and his passing will be deeply regretted.
